Can we give the CELPIP exam from home?
CELPIP is a proficiency test of the English language just like IELTS but there are slight variations that set the two apart. The CELPIP Test is much more comprehensive as compared to the other one. It also has more focus on the listening and speaking parts. It is a test basically made for those who wish to take either residency, studies, or jobs in Canada.
It is easier since the test requires just one sitting. Furthermore, there is no human interaction in the test which makes it more different. This test serves as a basis for providing proof for the proficiency of the English language. It is used for two purposes; either immigration purposes or for citizenship. The test ensures the proficiency level that we have when it comes to English.
However, the question here is, can we give the CELPIP exam from home?
Although the test is fully computer-delivered, you have to go to the specified examination center and give the exam in person. You cannot give the CELPIP exam from home.

What is the CELPIP exam?
CELPIP exam is divided into two categories which are:
- The General Test
- The LS Test
These two tests are similar when it comes to the subjects however, both take a different route in tests. The timings of the test and the different levels vary from one another.
General test:
The general test of the CELPIP exam comprises one sitting. The test is three hours long with different parts that the person has to complete. A certain number has to be achieved to be eligible. If you are applying for permanent residency then you need to take the general test. The general test consists of four parts that have different skills to test.
The first section is the reading section. This section comprises eight different tasks. The total duration of this section ranges between fifty to sixty minutes. These eight tasks consist of audios that test your ability to converse with friends, family, and colleagues. It tests your conversation in different situations.
The next section comprises the writing section. This section has just two tasks and takes a total of fifty-five minutes. These tasks are designed to see your writing abilities in different scenarios. It determines the types of writing and how well you can deal with them.
The listening section has 7 tasks with 47 minutes in total. Since listening is the major part when it comes to any language, you are listening almost 90 percent of the time throughout your day so it has seven different tasks that determine how much you are capable of listening to different situational conversations.
The third and last section is the speaking section. If you don’t have a perfect English accent, don’t worry as you only need a good grip on the language to pass this section. The time reserved for this section is twenty minutes. A total of eight tasks determines your ability to speak. The time is the least for this section because it doesn’t matter what your accent is as long as you can explain what you mean to others.
LS test:
If you are looking for an opportunity to apply for Canadian citizenship then you must take the LS test. Although this section is for citizenships, you just have to take two sections for the test. The total time reserved for this test is one hour and ten minutes which is done in one sitting.
First is the listening section which is a total of fifty minutes. The section comprises six tasks in total that are designed to determine your ability to listen to different words and sentences in the English language. This makes sure your level of English listening.
The speaking part is twenty-five minutes long. The speaking part has 8 tasks that are needed to be done in the given time. These tasks are specifically designed to test your speaking ability, which includes how well you are speaking the language and how clear your words are. Remember mumbling the words and chewing on your words won’t help you as you need to be clear and precise for your tasks.
Both of these tests are done through the computer. These tests are similar to those of IELTS in the difficulty level. The only thing that differs is the criterion of their tests.
