Any strategy to reach a desired goal usually demands specifying objectives, determining actions to achieve them and at the same time mobilizing resources to execute the actions. One strategy that is highly recommended by Amisha Vyas, Operations Manager of the authorized CELPIP & CAEL Test Centre at Chandigarh, is ‘Observation and Introspection’. With an extensive experience in handling training operations in India for IRCC funded Pre-Arrival Services, Ms. Vyas states – “If you are able to raise enough confidence while participating in everyday conversations in English language, CELPIP might be a better choice for you. The CELPIP Test Format is easy to comprehend and practice; and we at, India2Canada, always encourage CELPIP aspirants to have all their queries resolved before opting for any preparation course with us. At the same time, we encourage would-be CELPIP test takers to observe the listener or reader and take time to analyze her speech after every conversation.”
Let’s understand what it means to be observing others and introspecting self with regards to CELPIP test format.
While we communicate with multiple people in a day, we might not be much aware of our own tone, pitch, intonation, register and various other standards that we follow subconsciously. Furthermore, you will be surprised to know that in English language proficiency tests, those who take the test using their natural flow, score more. In other words, it would be better if you develop a habit of giving yourself some constructive criticism after every conversation, such as-
- whether you listened to or read properly before replying
- whether you addressed the listener or reader directly
- what kind of register you were using – informal, semi-formal or formal
- whether you addressed the question asked
- whether you were able to present your answer using minimum possible but effective content
- whether your message would have been perceived by the listener or reader as you intended to
Not only will these questions help you understand your own style, but also improve your way of expression as required by CELPIP test format. There are many more questions that you will be able to ask yourself as you keep on analyzing self-performance. Within a few days of practice, this skill will become your second nature, thereby making it much easier for you to utilize each precious second on CELPIP test effectively.
Many people find it an uphill task to get the eligibility score (varies from test taker to test taker) on Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) to initiate Canada PR process. Keeping these challenges in mind, Meenu Gill, Administrative Coordinator of India2Canada at Chandigarh, opines, “If you are one of those who are indecisive as to which test would be easier in order to attain desired CLB, you may discuss with us at India2Canada. Each test taker comes with a set of expectations; and we entertain each call and visit with utmost care.”
