How CELPIP Score is Calculated?
CELPIP is an English language proficiency test, abbreviated for the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program. CELPIP Scoring Levels
CELPIP exam scores are named CELPIP Levels. Firstly, the score a candidate gets determines not only the level of his proficiency in English but also decides the chances of his selection.
Secondly, another thing worth considering is the CLB level.
CLB Levels
CLB Stands for Canadian Language Benchmarks. Moreover, these are divided into 3 stages ( 1-4, 5-8, 9-12) and 12 CELPIP levels.
Most importantly, this level determines the minimum score you obtain in all four sections of the CELPIP test.
For example: If a person scores 7 in reading, 8 in listening, 5 in speaking, and 6 in writing, then the CLB level is 5.

- The time for the listening test is 47-55 minutes.
- The number of questions a candidate has to attempt in this time duration is 40-46 questions. And, these are divided into 7 components.

How are the CELPIP scores finalized?
The performance of a candidate is not judged by only one examiner. However, different raters assess the performance and the proficiency of the candidate.
Here are the few factors that overall decide the CELPIP scoring levels:
Rating Criteria
Listening and reading tests are automatically recorded and scored on the computer. But the speaking scores will be given by 3 speaking raters and the writing scores will be given by four writing raters. Further, these ratings will be given on the above 4 categories given in the table for speaking and writing.
Benchmarking
To bring the results of all the raters to the same agreement, a final rating will be considered from the benchmark rater. However, without knowing the initial rating, the benchmark raters assess the accuracy in performance. Most importantly, they make a decision based on their experience. After that, a final CELPIP score is given.
Final Scoring of All Levels
After that, all the scores are assessed by keeping in view the table of scores and the levels. The scores of all four portions are then assigned four CELPIP levels. Consequently, after 4-5 days, you will get the final results.
