The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is an English test where test-takers are evaluated for their abilities and skills in the English Language. There are two types of CELPIP tests, one is CELPIP General where you are assessed in four modules (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). The other one is CELPIP LS which assesses only speaking and listening proficiency.

The CELPIP General test is intended to apply for immigration and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for individuals who want permanent residency in Canada. All four modules of the test are computer-based. They are held at different CELPIP centers all over the world. The CELPIP General LS test has been accepted by IRCC for people who are applying for citizenship in Canada. In the LS test, the two modules of the test speaking and listening are also computer-based.

CELPIP General Test

This test comprises a total of 180 minutes. There are four sections in this test which are reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The candidate is tested in these four areas for English proficiency.

CELPIP Listening Test

The Listening part comprises 47 minutes. It includes listening to a conversation from everyday life or news etc. So the examiner will ask questions based on the conversation. For that, it is important that you should listen carefully. All the questions are multiple-choice questions.

CELPIP Reading Test

The reading part comprises 60 minutes. Test takers are asked to read a passage, an article, or a diagram.

CELPIP Writing Test

In this section, the examiner asks the test taker to write a mail. It consists of about 53 minutes.

CELPIP Speaking Test

This is the last part of the test. It takes about 20 minutes where the test taker is asked to speak about an experience or life event.

CELPIP General LS Test

In the LS test, only the listening and speaking test of the test taker is assessed. The listening part comprises 47 minutes and the speaking test is 20 minutes long.

Here are the steps involved in booking the CELPIP exam.

1. Choose your test

In the first step, you are going to select your test, which CELPIP test you are going for. Are you selecting CELPIP General or CELPIP LS? After selecting they will ask you about the reason for taking the CELPIP test. The reasons include study, immigration, and permanent residency. Select your reason.

2. Select a sitting

Here they will ask you about your center. The centers include India, Canada, China, the Philippines, Singapore, UAE, and the US. After selecting a country, you have to select a region. For example, if you are selecting India then you will select Chandigarh, Centre of Success.

3. Account Information

Here you have to make an account on their website. This account is important because they will send you information regarding your test timings. So you have to agree to the terms and policies that they are providing to move to the next step.

4. Identity Proof

Here they will verify your identity. They may ask for an id card number. You have to bring the same card to the test center used to register for the test.

5. Confirmation

Confirmation is the next process. You will have to confirm that you are going to give the test at the day and time set for you.

How many times can I take the CELPIP exam?

You can take the CELPIP test after 30 days. For that you have to register again within 30 days then the first exam will not be counted and it might be canceled.

How long is CELPIP valid?

The results of the CELPIP exam are generally considered valid by numerous institutions for 2 years. But each institution has its own rules and regulations so the validity might change.

Which score is considered good in CELPIP?

You should score a minimum of 7 bands in each category but if you score more than 7 then it is considered brilliant.
